Not even pain and bad weather could deter this SCPMG physician from helping a visually impaired athlete achieve a personal best at the Boston Marathon earlier this year.

Vincent Hau, MD, vitreoretinal surgeon at KPSC Riverside, blogged about his experience as a guide runner for Team with a Vision.

When an injury kept the physician from running the event for personal achievement, he became part of a dynamic duo who blazed a trail for a former Marine whose mettle exceeds most.

This short narrative takes about three to five minutes to read and reminds us that one gets more than one gives when volunteering – even in difficult weather conditions. Check out “Exercising My Soul as a Boston Marathon Guide for the Visually Impaired,” originally posted May 2015 on Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired blog.
